Evolution as devolution: The Smoking Gun

Wasn’t I just talking about whiny people who complain about their favorite sites changing?

Two former Village Voice reporters and a graphic designer created The Smoking Gun in 1997. The site, which posted public documents relating to famous people, big corporations and well-known public controversies, was a masterpiece of simple, stylish, usable design:

Still, I was pretty put off when I visited recently and saw a new makeover. Maybe it’s just me, but this seems like a case of more being less:
